Computer Virus Arcade Game

December 1, 2018

In 2018 I developed a computer game for VDE over the course of three months. The goal of the game is to defend a server from computer viruses and adversaries. When played in multiplayer mode, two players compete against each other by trying to catch the most viruses respectively.

The game is played without traditional methods of user input. There is no mouse and no keyboard, instead, each player stands on a shaky platform. By tilting their body to the front and back, the player's character moves upwards and downwards. By shifting the weight to the left and right, the character moves horizontally. Efficient character control demands a high sense of body-balance. This is especially important when a virus is captured, because the player must stay in a fixed position for a longer period of time. Take a look at the gameplay in singleplayer mode via the video below.

The game development included the reverse-engineering of the tilting platforms that are connected via the Bluetooth-Low-Energy protocol.

The game was presented at IFA 2018 and various other fairs.
